Sadara confirms TDI production underway

Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia — Sadara has confirmed its nameplate 200 kT/year TDI plant started commercial production on 17 September.
Speaking at the opening, Sadara CEO Ziad Al-Labban said: ‘Sadara has come a long way in the last six years, from the signing of the original agreement between our shareholders, Saudi Aramco and the Dow Chemical Company, to Sadara’s official inauguration last November by King Salman to today’s commercial operation of plants at the complex.’
The plant is made up of three units producing dinitro toluene (DNT), toluene di-amine (TDA) and TDI. It is the last of 26 world-scale manufacturing plants at the complex located on the Persian/Arabian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia.
Sadara started ramping up production of MDI and PMDI in July 2017. The site’s 400 kT/year polyols trains also started up in July 2017.
